Hemel Hempstead's XC on a Quiet Saturday Night

After visiting a very busy opening jam at Dunstable's new skatepark we all bundled back in the van and headed to XC in Hemel Hempstead. After a good session on the mini ramp with a few others that made the short journey from the jam I got the camera out and goaded the others into photos.

Danish Hussein - f/s lip slide

Dave's expression does not truly portray his love of gripping tail

Luke Jarvis - air from quarter to mini

John Howlett - b/s smith

Josh Cole - f/s smith

Steve - b/s air

Dunstable Skatepark Opening Jam

The predicted two hour journey from Bury St. Edmunds to Dunstable was made a little less realistic as we sat in traffic having hit Luton on a Saturday lunchtime. Steve blamed his satnav, the remaining nine passengers blamed Steve... continually for the remainder of the journey.
Quote of the journey goes to Steve's young son, who asked when someone pointed out the gay bar's rear entrance in Hitchin visible from the window of the van and inappropriate jokes were made...  "What do you do in a gay bar?"
On eventually arriving, we found the park to be surrounded by around 250 BMXers, scootering enthusiasts, skateboarders and spectators. The PA was at full volume and the BMX comp was just drawing to a close.
We were greeted by friends at Moonshine Skateboards, the illusive JThax (who had, still slightly alebriated come from a late night/early morning session at House of Vans in Waterloo and was heading to War Of The Thistles in Glasgow after this comp) and Geordie and the crew went to work on this new concrete pit before the skate comp got going.
John Howlett was given a slack line ratchet strap thing as payment for an on demand flip f/s board down the handrail and Luke came away one t shirt warmer after a big step up to b/s tail slide. I'm pretty sure John's skate carrier will take a back seat for a while following this weekend's win as he concentrates on free festivals, dreads and those embroidered poofy trowser things that make every wearer look a little Seven Dwarvish. Mark my words, he'll have changed his name to John 'The Diabolo' Howlett and joined the circus by Christmas.
Once the comp had blown itself out we said our farewells to the builders and fiends not following and headed out to Hemel Hempstead.
